We are well and truly into storm season here at Vetcall Ashmore, in the last week we had six stray dogs brought into the clinic after a storm. It is important to be aware of how to help your pets remain calm during storms.
Fireworks and thunder can be very distressing and troublesome for your pets. To prevent them from running away, keep them safe and calm indoors with you. Always ensure to provide sufficient shelter and access to food and water. You could also put them inside the laundry, toilet, and large wardrobe or in a suitable crate. Creating a 'den' type environment for your pet is often most comforting, blocking out sights and sounds from the outside and playing background music can help to keep your pet calm. In the event of a missing pet, make the process of finding them easier by having them registered, micro-chipped and have a pet ID attached to their collar.
When moving house ensure your details are up to date. This could make the difference to you being reunited with your loved one! If you would like to check the current information on your pet’s microchip please don't hesitate to contact us at the clinic.
If you pets are not micro-chipped please have this done urgently.
There are a number of medications that can also help keep your pet calm if a quiet environment and reassurance from you is not enough. Please call the clinic to book an appointment for assessment
